New Years 2018 In Flaine

November 2017 - January 2018

Short and sweet one from Flaine. This was to be our first new years as husband and wife so we were really excited and ready to capture some action shots on the skis.

We flew into Geneva, grabbed a quick breakfast and jumped into a Taxi. Compared to some of the mammoth transfers we’ve experienced to the Alps, this was pleasantly short, roughly 90 minutes. As soon as we stepped into our home-for-the-week, Terminal Neige Totem, we knew we’d made a good choice. This recently built hotel perching on the edge of the piste, fits perfectly into the concrete jungle that is Flaine. We have stayed in a variety of skiing accommodation, ranging from budget to luxury and this was up there.

That feeling when you wake up for the first day’s skiing in a snow covered paradise overwhelmed us as usual. After grabbing a superb breakfast we headed up the mountain. After a few hours of skiing it was clear that this was some of the best snow we’ve ever skied in, almost as good as Niseko!

We scouted the mountain over the first few days, elegantly on skis and substantially less elegantly trying snowboarding, for the best vantage points. Once we’d found a few we headed up to capture some shots. After capturing a few at the top we realised we hadn’t charged the camera batteries and had forgotten the charger! Nevertheless we did manage to get a few, which portray what life on the top of the alps is like.

The only good thing that came from not being able to spend more time shooting meant we got a lot better at snowboarding.

Until next time Flaine – we’ll be back!
