Best photo spots in Mauritius
With its sandy beaches that stretch for miles and picture-perfect azure seas, there are plenty of reasons why Mauritius is such a popular holiday destination. With a beautiful country comes beautiful picture opportunities. These are our top 5 photo locations here that you shouldn’t miss!
1. Le Morne Brabant
Le morne is a peninsula situated at the southwestern tip of Mauritius. Lots of people climb it to enjoy the views, and it’s where you can spot the famous Mauritius underwater waterfall illusion. It is also the perfect place for watching the sunset.
There are a few hotels situated in Le Morne – St Regis, LUX* Le Morne, Dinarobin Beachcomber and Paradis Beachcomber. The hammock in the LUX* hotel is a great photo opportunity, as are any of the beaches here.
2. Trou Aux Biches
Trou aux biches is one of the must-see beaches in Mauritius, popular with families because of its shallow waters. Stop by the jetty on the beach to grab a few photos. But really, any of the beaches here are perfect photo spots. Plus if you have an underwater camera you might catch a few sea turtles!
3. Chamarel Waterfall
Chamarel waterfall is the tallest waterfall in Mauritius, and is an excellent photo opportunity. To get to the spot as seen below, take the stairs to the right of the carpark and you’ll find it easily (a 2 minute walk).
4. Eau Bleue Waterfall
Less well known but also beautiful – the eau bleue waterfall is located at the Southern end of the island, and is popular with the locals. When we were there there were quite a few locals swimming and jumping into the water.
5. Ile Aux Cerfs
Ile Aux Cerfs is located in the east, and is accessible by half hourly ferries from Pointe Maurice that every half hour between 9.30 am and 5.30/6pm depending on the time of the year. You could either turn up and grab a ferry or book a day trip to the island that usually includes a food and drinks package. There’s lots to do here, including snorkelling and stand up paddle boarding. Why not get a photo of yourself on a standup paddle board?
